Methodology of Scientific Research in Thracian Architecture
The book expands on the methods of research into ancient architecture and archaeological excavations as well as on the way in which the methodology is applied to study and analyse elements of the architecture of religious buildings in Thrace in Antiquity. Examples are given to illustrate their interiors and exteriors, construction, functioning, implementation and partially, decoration. Their interpretation relates to the scientific, technical and technological achievements and knowledge of the architects, who have designed those. The cultural and historical environment, including schools of philosophy and teachings in Antiquity, the political system and the social structure are considered as factors defining the appearance and the style of ancient religious architecture.
The book features studies and assumptions about issues brought up for the time being by this author only. The book abounds in pictures and figures in substantiation of these issues.
Malvina Rousseva is an expert in the field of research, documentation and preservation of immovable cultural heritage at the Institute of Art Studies, BAS. Her major work is related to studying Mediterranean culture and architecture in Antiquity and particularly, Thracian culture. She has two books: Thracian Cult Architecture and Thracian Tomb Architecture in Bulgarian Lands in the 5th–3rd century BC. A number of her studies and articles have been published in Bulgaria, UK, Spain and US.
