The study enunciates a large number of assumptions and legends of the church.
The facts are critically sifted from the circulating myths and new historical information is provided, which allows for the wall paintings to be eventually attributed to two icon painters from Mount Athos, David and Jacob.
Previously unknown examples are cited of their artworks with the murals of the katholikon of the Monastery of Bigor excelling among the others.
The book will be of interest mostly to professional art experts from the Balkan countries and to researchers of Mount Athos’ painting as well as to historians, art restorers and to wider audiences having zest for the Bulgarian culture of the National Revival Period. The book also clarifies some issues related to the Church of St Nicolas, which have for years now stirred up the interest of the public of Elena.
The book is co-published by the Institute of Art Studies and Prof. Marin Drinov Academic Press
