This publication of the Institute of Art Studies is the first and sole one about of the art of ballet. The voluminous study seeks to establish the relations between plots, choreography and music, offering commentaries on choreographic approaches and their influence on genre definiteness. Benchmark ballets of the classical repertoire and the interpretation of these in the twentieth century are examined. Ideas and structure in plots, music and choreography are compared. The book includes biographies of the composers under consideration, a ballet glossary and a large bibliography.
